Bangkok Knights | System 3 (Soft Culture) | 1989 | BANGKOKKNIGHTS From the humble peasant farmers of Thailand came one of the world's most devastating forms of combat, Thai Boxing — the fastest, meanest and most exciting full contact sport in the world of martial arts. In this unique simulation of Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) you must fight your way from the cliff ledge above your village, through the jungle and into the streets of Bangkok. Only after defeating all the street-wise opponents will you be granted the right to fight in the famous Lumpini stadium, here you will encounter the greatest exponents of the sport, the Bangkok Knights. By using unique and innovative programming techniques you will have to combat the largest, cartoon-like, animated characters ever seen and with the action set against eight way smooth scrolling backgrounds plus state of the art music and digitised sound effects. But beware, the Bangkok Knights are not known for their chivalry. Chambers of Shaolin | Thalion;Grandslam (Thalion) | 1989 | In the first part of this game, you will have to train your character in the various chambers of Shaolin. Each exercise, which includes balancing on trees, kicking a pendulum and dodging objects coming towards you, will improve your skills like stamina and strength. The better you do in the chambers, the easier it will be for you in part two. Part two is a more traditional 2D fighting game where you have to advance from level to level by beating your opponents up.*** [23]*** [49]*** [102]*** [33]*** [83]*** [22]*** [52] | labelimagesubject |
Chinese Karate | Turtle Byte | 1989 | Chinese Karate is a one vs. one fighter. Like the title suggests, the fights are restricted to hand-to-hand combat as well as flying kicks. The game consists of a tournament with six fights in which the player, in the role of the combatant with the white robe, battles against an opponent dressed in red. The goal of each fight is to bring the opponent's health bar to zero before the own health runs out. If no fighter manages to KO the enemy after two rounds of 99 seconds, the guy with the most remaining health wins. Each fight takes place in another area with a new background image and progresses in difficulty. Between fights the player gets to engage in a bonus game in which items, e.g. flying balls or vases, have to be destroyed for bonus points.*** [102]*** [33] | labelimagesubject |

Panza Kick Boxing | Loriciel (Futura) | 1990 | Best of the Best Championship Karate is a realistic fighting game. After you choose your fighter for his parameters (strength, stamina and resistance), you can choose from 55 different moves. You can now train your fighter at a gym before the real fights. To master the game, one must alternate training and fights, as training improves stamina, strength and resistance. Be careful, losing a fight reduces those parameters, so you have to be ready before getting in the ring!*** [23]*** [142]*** [118]*** [49]*** [23]*** [106]*** [105]*** [102]*** [33]***Best of the Best [22]*** [22]*** [37]*** [37]***A very good reality-based kickboxing game. This game was endorsed by a (somewhat) famous French kickboxer from the 80s, Andre Panza. It features a multitude of moves (35+), a training section, and a great control system. Combined with some excellent (for its day) captured animation of Andre Panza, this all makes the game very enjoyable. Note that the renamed Megadrive/Genesis cart is easier to play due to the three-button joypads! | labelimagesubject |
